Abstract Background The Stress Intensity Factor (SIF) is used to describe the stress state and mechanical behaviour of a material in presence cracks. SIF can be experimentally assessed using contactless techniques such as Thermoelastic Analysis (TSA). classic TSA theory concerns relationship between temperature variations was successfully applied fracture mechanics for evaluation crack tip location. This no longer valid some materials, titanium aluminium, where also depend on mean stress. Objective objective this work present new thermoelastic equation that includes dependence investigate effect proximity tips titanium. Methods Westergaard’s equations Williams’s series expansion were employed order express signal, including second-order effect. Tests have been carried out differences proposed approach classical one. Results A first qualitative importance considering effects signal two loading conditions at different ratios, R = 0.1 0.5, consisted comparing experimental synthetic maps. Moreover, SIF, evaluated with approaches, compared values from ASTM standard formulas.
